Ride Like the Wind

As the largest native waterfowl in North America, trumpeter swans need a surprising amount of space to get airborne. With wingspans reaching up to eight feet, they run across the water while flapping hard, their black feet churning the surface until lift finally takes over.

Did you know:

Trumpeter swans use an unusual incubation method, warming their eggs by covering them with their large, webbed feet rather than sitting directly on them. (Source: All About Birds)
