Two trumpeter swans pass each other while leisurely paddling around a lake earlier this year. For those familiar with Dr. Dolittle, the pushmi-pullyu is a gazelle–unicorn cross with two heads at opposite ends of its body. With a little imagination, the angle of this moment makes these two swans resemble a pushmi-pullyu of the swan world—but only in our imagination.
A closer look at how swans move on land
Although trumpeter swans can appear awkward on land due to their short legs set behind their center of gravity, they are surprisingly capable walkers. They can travel more than a mile at a time, even when moving with cygnets less than a week old. (Source: All About Birds)
