Make a Joyful Noise

Ma and Pa Sandhill Crane let out one of their rattling bugle calls with their two little colts beside them. Their calls can travel up to 2.5 miles and are immediately recognizable whether from the ground or thousands of feet in the air—what a joyful noise to witness.

From the Field

Sandhill Crane vocalizations are often described as “bugles” or “trumpets,” used to communicate with other cranes and to defend territory from rival species. Each breeding pair develops a unique unison duet, performed by both male and female, strengthening pair bonds while signaling their presence across the landscape. (Source: Birdfy)
