Let’s Go This Way Little One

It’s that time of year when the Sandhill Cranes start foraging the spring fields with their newly hatched colts. It’s a lovely sight indeed . . .

Springtime Colors and Feathers

Sandhill Cranes have gray feathers that sometimes appear rusty-brown. This color comes from preening with iron-rich mud. Their feathers are soft and smooth, providing excellent insulation. They also have a distinctive red patch on their forehead—this patch is bare skin, not feathers—and it becomes brighter during the mating season. (Source: BirdingPros)
