Tighten Up the Formation
An incoming squadron of American White Pelicans tightens its formation and banks westward, long wings flexing as the group moves with quiet precision through the spring sky.
From the Field
Pelicans are skilled food thieves, stealing from other pelicans attempting to swallow large fish and succeeding roughly one-third of the time. They also target Double-crested Cormorants bringing fish to the surface, and in dense nesting colonies, some birds even steal food regurgitated by parents feeding nearby young. Many moments like this are captured in the field, with a curated selection of wildlife images occasionally making their way into the Fine Art Print Gallery.
