Cicada Killer Wasps

And now for something completely different . . . Cicada Killer Wasps. You’ll find these wasps in Illinois starting in July as they emerge from their underground nests which are about a foot deep in loose/sandy soil. They’ll fly quickly and dart just above the ground and the nests of one or more females. And although the males can be aggressive, they are not a threat to humans; they’ll just fly around and give us a good look. When I came across a group of them (they’re mostly solitary) methinks it would be a fun challenge to get some WIF shots (wasp-in-flight), and here are a few frames . . .
