A Ruby-throated came in fast but went into full-flaps mode to stop before tangling with a bumblebee that already had dibs on a flower. "On second thought, I'll just hover over yonder way . . . "

Look who's been working the flowers pretty hard, with a little pollen stuck on its beak. Love it when they hover up and look right at you, and with a background full of flowers . . .

The Cape May Warblers are making their way to the Caribbean from their summer digs in the boreal forests of the northern US and Canada, and for a few days around here they have been energizing up on some grapes . . .

The other evening with the last light of the day shining through the shadows, a Cooper's Hawk (perhaps a juvenile?) flew in and perched in a pear tree not far from where I was enjoying the birds and looking for a final capture of the day . . .
