Bufflehead in Flight

Buffleheads are the smallest diving ducks in North America, but they are one of the fastest waterfowl achieving flight speeds of up to almost 50 mph, which makes them challenging to capture, and in turn, makes them even more fun. I was fortunate when this beauty flew toward me and banked to the south at the right time during golden hour. Buffleheads are known for the large-headed appearance, and their name is derived from their “buffalo head”.
