Good to See You Again

After wintering in the southwestern United States or Mexico, Yellow-headed Blackbirds return to their breeding grounds in northern Illinois, bringing energy and unmistakable character back to the marsh each spring.

Seasonal Movements and Social Behavior

Yellow-headed Blackbirds nest in noisy colonies within large cattail marshes of the Midwest and West, and outside the breeding season they gather in open fields, often forming large mixed flocks that can number in the thousands during winter. (Source: Audubon)
