Soar With the Breeze

A Red-tailed Hawk rides the breezy spring winds over the Illinois prairie, wings outstretched as it scans the landscape below.

In the wild

Red-tailed Hawks possess exceptionally sharp eyesight—estimated to be up to eight times stronger than that of humans. While in flight, they can spot small prey such as mice from high above the ground. To protect their eyes, they use a translucent third eyelid, known as a nictitating membrane, which helps shield them from wind and debris and offers protection during dives. (Source: Audubon)

Some moments are simply observed, others eventually become finished work—select images take shape in the Fine Art Print Store.
