This Papa eagle is most likely a first-timer to this whole raising an eaglet thing (and Mama reminds him every now and then). Since becoming Mama’s new mate last fall (she lost her previous mate spring of 2019), he’s been doing pretty good, but needs to learn a few things. He’s done well hunting and bringing fish to the nest, but several times he will eat most of the fish before bringing it to the nest and just bring the head back. Case in point, this image shows just the head of a fish in his right talons, and his guilt is sealed with the fact he has a fish scale stuck to his beak. He’ll get better, and we look forward to next year’s eaglet(s).
