The flitter champion
Even though the Cabbage White Butterfly caterpillar is a major pest to brassicas like cabbage and broccoli, the adult butterfly is a graceful sight as it flits quickly from flower to flower, sometimes pirouetting skyward before darting away. After years of trying, capturing one in flight finally came together late this past summer, and despite their reputation, they remain enjoyable to watch in motion.
Multiple generations each year
Cabbage White Butterflies typically produce two generations per year, with adults appearing in April–May and again in July–August, though favorable conditions can allow for a third brood; larvae hatch just three days after eggs are laid. (Source: FactInformer)
