It’s 10 Degrees and Getting Colder

When you’ve been working on the nest to get it ready for the upcoming nesting season, but it’s ten degrees and the snow just keeps piling up, sometimes all you can do is shake it off and do the chilly willies. Winter preparation doesn’t pause for cold weather, even when conditions turn brutal.

Cold Weather Fact

Bald eagles have thick, insulating feathers that trap warm air close to their bodies. This dense layer of plumage acts as a natural shield against the cold, providing essential warmth and protection from harsh winter winds. Eagles often fluff their feathers to create additional air pockets, increasing insulation in much the same way an extra layer of clothing helps us stay warm. (Source: The World’s Rarest Birds)
