Fresh Sushi Time
This Great Blue Heron seemed quite pleased with its catch, snagged mid-pond before making the slow walk back to the shoreline, where it delivered a few firm thumps with its bill before settling in to enjoy the meal.
Worth Knowing
The Great Blue Heron’s diet includes a wide range of fish species, from small minnows to larger prey like bass and perch. Exceptional vision allows herons to spot fish both above and below the water’s surface, making them highly effective predators in aquatic environments. In addition to fish, they regularly consume amphibians such as frogs and salamanders, especially in wetland habitats where prey is abundant. (Source: Close to Nature)
