Icarus Egret
Knowing that the vibrant sunsets from the heat, haze, and smoke would soon fade as late September approached, I scouted a new spot that offered not just a view of the sun, but its reflection stretching across the lake. The lake had shrunk noticeably due to heat and drought, leaving shallow water where several great egrets moved back and forth feeding. During a brief window when the sun aligned perfectly with the water, one egret flew south to north directly through the reflection, splashing the surface as it passed.
